How to choose your sports nutrition | Nutrisens

Nutrisens Sport is here to guide you and help you choose the right energy product. Our aim: to help you prepare well BEFORE your workout, perform well DURING your workout and recover well AFTER your workout.

BEFORE EXERCISE

Aim: Stock up on energy

The body stores energy in different ways, and in particular as glycogen in the liver and muscles.
We need to eat complex carbohydrates to boost our reserves. These are mainly found in starchy products. It is also good to vary sources of carbohydrates, and maltodextrin is a great molecule for topping up your energy levels. Maltodextrin is a group of sugars: glucose maltose, maltotriose, oligosaccharides and polysaccharides. It has low sweetening properties and a low glycaemic index which means it is considered as a complex carbohydrate (slow-acting sugar). On top of that, it is tasteless and easy to digest: a great carbohydrate for stocking up your glycogen stores!

DURING EXERCISE

Aim: Performance

During exercise, you need to anticipate and compensate the energy and hydration lost through effort.

The secret to good performance? Regularity!

Don’t wait until you’re thirsty! Water is essential for good cell activity, but also to regulate your body temperature. Thirst is a warning sign: you are already dehydrated once you’re thirsty. Feeling thirsty equates to losing 1% of your body weight, which means you’ve already lost 10% of your physical ability!

An energy drink is essential to perform well, and it plays two roles: it provides maximum hydration and immediate fuel. To avoid dehydration, it’s simple: drink 1 to 2 sips every 10 to 15 minutes from the start to the end of your workout.

The right drink is a strategic decision. The choice should depend on the type and duration of the workout. The longer and more intense it is (over 2 hours), the more important it is to stock up on complex carbohydrates (maltodextrin) for stamina and performance over the duration.

For short, medium- to high-intensity workouts, you should opt for fast-acting carbohydrates, such as glucose, fructose or saccharose, so that energy is available fast.

Nutrisens Sport offers you a wide range of energy drinks to choose from depending on the type and duration of your workout.

As well as an energy drink, we recommend that you take one gel or bar for every hour of exercise. Gels are small but effective! With their nomad format, our energy gels are easy to carry with you. They are made up of simple carbohydrates (fast-acting sugars) : glucose syrup, dextrose and fructose, which provide an instantly available source of energy.

Nutrisens Sports gels come in two textures:

  • Gel texture
  • Liquid texture

To make it easier for the product to be absorbed by the body quickly, the liquid gels contain more water.

Each of our gels has its own specific feature and flavour, so you can chop and change products to suit your needs and preferences:

Alongside your energy drink, we recommend that you take one gel or bar for every hour of exercise so that your body gets the energy it needs and can absorb it straight away. The advantage of a bar is that it makes a change from liquids and keeps hunger pangs at bay.

Nutrisens Sport has a selection of bars with different textures and flavours so there’s something to suit each person’s needs and tastes: marzipan, jelly fruits, seeds, sweet or savoury flavours - take your pick!

AFTER EXERCISE

Aim: Recovery

Once the workout is over, the body is still active and needs nutrients. During exercise, our metabolism is really put through its paces : we use our tendons, muscles and joints. Our body needs to rebalance and eliminate the toxins that have built up. We’re all too inclined to skip this stage, but it’s essential; especially if you’re doing back to back races or intensive workouts. The body needs to refuel and top up on carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and micronutrients so that it can replenish its energy and mineral stores to prevent tiredness.

The 30 minutes after your workout are crucial.

The body’s needs are just as important after a race or training session as they are during it. It needs to replenish its stores of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and minerals and needs to be hydrated. Topping up all these nutrients initiates muscle recovery and helps to prevent acidosis occurring, which causes cramps among other things.

Nutrisens Sport has a comprehensive range of recovery products: drinks, milk drinks, bars... pick your favourite recovery buddy and get back to training in no time!

DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS

Aim: Enhance the body’s resistance

A healthy body for perfect performance!

The frequency, intensity and succession of training sessions and races really take their toll on an athlete’s body. It’s also important to know that a change of season, jet lag and temperature changes all make our body more fragile.

In order to boost your body’s system and stave off a deficiency of micronutrients, a course of supplements is sometimes needed.

Whether it’s to help you ease back into training or to prepare for a race, Nutrisens Sport has a comprehensive range of dietary supplements to suit each person’s needs and requirements.
