The book gives us the opportunity to issue a reminder of the key issues relating to the condition.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Overview<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u25a0\u00a0\u00a0<b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nutrisens.com\/en\/malnutrition\/\">Malnutrition<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nutrisens.com\/en\/malnutrition\/\">\u00a0<\/a><\/b>is defined as a deficiency in energy, protein or any other macro or micronutrient that affects bodily functions and\/or body composition and worsens conditions. Muscles are the part of the body most affected by malnutrition.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Consequences of malnutrition\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u25a0 Increase in morbidity and mortality rates of chronic and acute diseases<br \/>\n\u25a0 Increase in the likelihood of:<br \/>\n&#8211; infection, particularly hospital-acquired and pulmonary<br \/>\n&#8211; osteopenia\/osteoporosis<br \/>\n&#8211; dependence, falling and handicap<br \/>\n&#8211; bedsores and thromboembolic disorders<br \/>\n&#8211; fractures<br \/>\n&#8211; hypothermia<br \/>\n\u25a0 Delays cure<br \/>\n\u25a0 Reduces efficiency of treatments<br \/>\n\u25a0 Increases length of convalescence, number of prescriptions and hospital costs<br \/>\n\u25a0 Affects quality of life, well-being and social relations<\/p>\n<p><em>According to Stratton et al<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u25a0\u00a0The<strong>\u00a0condition<\/strong>\u00a0can be caused by a lack of appropriate intake and\/or an increase in loss and\/or and increase in requirements.
